Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the A40CHV and A50CHV - which one should I choose?
Both servos share the same housing dimensions, gear train, coreless motor, and voltage range (6.0-8.4V). The key difference is the torque/speed trade-off. The A40CHV delivers up to 40 kg-cm torque at 8.4V with faster speed (0.10 sec/60°), making it ideal for applications where quick response is critical such as ailerons and rudder on high-speed aircraft. The A50CHV delivers up to 50 kg-cm torque at 8.4V but is slightly slower (0.16 sec/60°), making it the better choice for heavy elevator and large control surfaces on 100cc+ gas engine or turbine jet aircraft where maximum holding force is required.
What size RC aircraft is the A40CHV / A50CHV designed for?
The A40CHV and A50CHV are engineered for 30cc to 200cc gas engine RC aircraft, large-scale EDF (Electric Ducted Fan) jets, and turbine jet models. They are suitable for aircraft with wingspans typically ranging from 1.5m to 3m+ where standard servos lack sufficient torque to handle large control surfaces under aerodynamic load. They are not recommended for small sport planes or trainers where a lighter, lower-torque servo would be more appropriate.
What voltage should I run the A40CHV / A50CHV at, and do I need a separate BEC?
Both servos operate on 6.0V to 8.4V DC. For maximum performance, running at 8.4V (2S LiHV or regulated supply) delivers peak torque and speed. Most large-scale RC aircraft use a dedicated high-current BEC or separate servo battery pack to power servos independently from the main flight battery. We recommend using a high-quality BEC rated for at least 10A continuous output when running multiple A40CHV/A50CHV servos simultaneously, as high-torque servos can draw significant current under load.
Is the A40CHV / A50CHV compatible with the Power HD PGC programming card?
Yes. Both the A40CHV and A50CHV are compatible with the Power HD PGC series programming card, which allows you to adjust servo parameters including center point, travel limits, speed, and direction without a transmitter. This is particularly useful for fine-tuning servo throws on large-scale aircraft during setup and for matching multiple servos on dual-servo control surfaces.
What gear material does the A40CHV / A50CHV use and how durable is it?
Both servos use a hybrid gear train combining 7075 aluminum alloy and 416 imported stainless steel gears. The 7075 aluminum gears provide lightweight strength for the upper gear stages, while the 416 steel gears handle the high-load output stages. This combination delivers excellent durability under the sustained high-torque demands of large-scale aircraft control surfaces. The dual ball bearing construction further ensures smooth, precise operation and long service life.
