What is the difference between the MAX10 80A G2S and 140A G2S - which one should I choose?
Both ESCs share the same IP67 waterproof rating, built-in Bluetooth, turbo timing technology, and adjustable BEC output (6V/7.4V/8.4V up to 10A). The difference is continuous current capacity and burst rating. The 80A G2S (burst 950A) is suited for standard 1/10 builds with motors up to approximately 4500KV on 2S-3S LiPo - ideal for most sport bashing, crawling, and club-level racing. The 140A G2S (burst 1050A) handles higher-power motors up to approximately 6000KV and is the better choice for high-performance builds, modified class racing, or any setup where you push the motor hard for extended periods. If in doubt, the 140A provides more headroom and runs cooler under load.
How does the Bluetooth programming work - do I need a programming card?
The MAX10 G2S has built-in Bluetooth that connects directly to the free HW LINK app on iOS or Android. Through the app you can adjust all ESC parameters including throttle profile, brake strength, turbo timing, BEC voltage, drag brake, and more - wirelessly from your smartphone. For most users, the HW LINK app replaces the need for a separate programming card entirely. A Hobbywing LED program card can still be used if preferred, but is not required.
What does IP67 waterproof mean - can I run the MAX10 G2S in rain and puddles?
IP67 means the ESC is fully protected against dust ingress and can withstand immersion in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes. In practical RC use, this means you can bash through puddles, run in rain, and drive through mud without worrying about water damage to the ESC. IP67 is the highest waterproof rating commonly found in RC ESCs and provides genuine all-weather protection for outdoor bashing and trail running.
What is Turbo Timing and how does it improve performance?
Turbo Timing is Hobbywing's advanced motor timing technology that dynamically increases motor timing at high RPM to extract more top-end speed from your motor. It can boost top speed by up to 25% compared to fixed timing. You can adjust the turbo timing level, activation RPM threshold, and ramp-up rate through the HW LINK app to tune the power delivery for your specific motor, track, and driving style. For stock class racing, check your class rules before enabling turbo timing as it may not be permitted.
What motors and batteries are compatible with the MAX10 G2S?
The MAX10 G2S supports both sensored and sensorless brushless motors. It is compatible with 2S-3S LiPo and 6-9 cell NiMH batteries. For the 80A version, motors up to approximately 4500KV on 2S-3S are recommended. For the 140A version, motors up to approximately 6000KV are supported. It pairs directly with Hobbywing Xerun V10 G5 motors (21.5T, 25.5T) for stock class racing, and with Xerun series modified motors for open class bashing and racing.
